We are very concerned for the environment and water quality this very large development will bring. And the impact to wildlife in Reedy Bay.
Number one concern water quality.
This kind of development has to stop, especially along this bay. The only reason the developer wants that area is that he can then sell for huge dollars, not caring about the ecosystem and the people that have long since made their homes there.
The way in which this project has continued to move forward without due process, without stakeholder consideration/ consultation/input Is unacceptable. Rhyl and I stand unequivocally opposed to this development.
This development would destroy what Sioux Narrows is and has always been.
It does not seem right that the township would give property to private interests to develop for profit. I counted over 72 parking spaces which will be filled with cars carrying groceries and goods brought from Winnipeg for long weekends and contribute little to the local economy. The proposed development does not target year round residents who work and live in Sioux Narrows and lack affordable housing. A development of this size seems wrong for the location from an environmental standpoint and wrong for the township from the “branding” standpoint the township has been developing.
Community support is needed. In the future projects such as this should never be brought forward without the input of impacted neighbors and community members. Other options would be considered. Instead here we are. This should be a lesson learned on how to encourage positive economic development.
Housing is important for seniors and people who want to live here permanently. No need for a big marina. Move that tank sitting next to the post office and build a senior complex which is close to amenities like the grocery store and the post office!
PROTECT REEDY BAY!
Lake life, before condos.
Please keep our town unique!
I think more thought needs to go into the impact too many negatives to justify.
I am from a nearby community and we are on Regina Bay. Any impacts regarding water and environmental should always be considered.
More housing is needed, affordable housing and seniors housing. Work on that first.
This projected development is absolutely ignorant of complete ecological destruction of a water body vital to NORTHERN PIKE spawning habitat. How can MNR even consider such an asinine proposal together with SN council!!!!
The environment must be a priority for any tourist destination. This plan does not support the surrounding environment or sustainability. If the land is being gifted it should directly benefit the township and the people who directly support it.
We live here in the summer - mid May to end of September, Lobstick Bay area. This proposed condo and items from the info available doesn't sound well planned or been given consideration to the environmental impact of the area. Let alone the fact that the people who live here need additional housing. Another example of money running things at the expense of others.
This development would alter the peacefulness and beauty of the area. Very destructive.
Not in the best interest of the Sioux Narrows community image besides being highly detrimental to the fish and wildlife habitat.
No land should ever be gifted to a developer. If you are gifting land, you should rightfully return it to First Nations in the area as the caretakers since time immemorial of this place. Protect the water, the forests and the wildlife.
Find another place more conducive to our local environment.
